Environmental Stewardship
Environmental stewardship is the act of taking responsibility for the well-being of the natural environment and making an effort to restore or protect that well-being. It comes from an attitude of respecting and caring for the earth. It is also one of the four cogs of the Community Sustainability Plan - the Town's guiding strategy for all planning and decision-making.
Environmental Stewardship Strategy
In 2007, council adopted the Environmental Stewardship Strategy (-1.14MB), which was updated in 2011. The strategy systematizes and steers the Town's environmental priorities in a unified and well-planned way. It identifies eight key themes, with several specific action-items and both short- and long-term targets for each area.
The themes are:
- Planning and Regulation
- Water
- Air Quality
- Waste
- Transportation
- Water
- Procurement
- Education and Promotion

- policies and procedures;
- water conservation;
- public education and awareness;
- garbage and recycling collection;
- tree planting and reforestation;
