Historic Outdoor Murals
About the Town Mural Program
The Town initiated its Murals Program in 1989 to preserve and celebrate our heritage with the first murals being completed in 1990. To date, there are 36 life-sized murals, one six-foot statue of Sheriff Israel Umbach, the Town's first and famous sheriff and two statues at Town Office - as a celebration of the Town's Centennial in 2008.
The Town of Stony Plain retains all the warmth and charm of its deep cultural and agricultural roots. Our breathtaking murals, designed by artists from across Canada, illustrate our community's rich story. These outdoor paintings, ranging in size and scope, depict scenes from Stony Plain's past and adorn a number of buildings throughout the community. If you only have a few hours, spend time exploring the murals within the downtown core. If you have more time, and a bicycle or vehicle, be sure to check out all of the murals within town.
