The Town of Stony Plain Fire Department is staffed by a full-time fire chief, a deputy fire chief of training and a deputy fire chief of operations. These staff are complemented by a contingent of four full time firefighters and more than 35 paid on-call firefighters, who are committed to serving and protecting people and property in Stony Plain.
Firefighters receive National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certified training as well as Standard First Aid. Firefighters also attend weekly training sessions to maintain fire-fighting and medical skills to ensure that they continue to meet the department's standards.
Over the years, the fire service has evolved into a public safety agency, providing highly technical and diverse services. The general public has come to rely on the fire service - not only when life and property are threatened by man-made and natural emergencies, but for seemingly smaller issues as well.
In order to ensure that all firefighters are prepared to deliver the highest level of service, mandatory training is provided for each Firefighter, which will give him or her the most up-to-date skills, knowledge and abilities necessary to deliver emergency services to the residents of Stony Plain and Parkland County.
Volunteer firefighters receive a remuneration for attendance at emergencies, training sessions and weekend stand-by duties.
Although the Fire Hall has a good safety record, protection is provided through comprehensive insurance and Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) program.
