Eligibility and Training
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid minimum Class 5 Alberta driver’s license. Applicants must live within the town limits of Stony Plain.
Applicants do not require any prior training or experience. New recruits will be expected to meet the time commitment to take the minimum-required training.
Mandatory training courses are offered locally to new recruits. Equivalencies for previous training and experience will be considered. Most of these training courses take place weekends.
Firefighters must understand it takes quite a lot of time, effort, and dedication to reach the level of training and experience necessary for the safety of both themselves and the public. In addition to attending fire calls, they are expected to attend the majority of the evening training sessions, which are held once per week.
