What is KidSport?
KidSport Parkland was initiated by the Town of Stony Plain in November 2001. With an invitation to community groups, social service agencies and the community in general, an organizational meeting was held. The response was overwhelming, and the committee was formed and active by January 2002.
Although the main administration is performed by the Town's Community and Protective Services department, committee members include staff from Parkland County, the City of Spruce Grove and several volunteers representing unique areas of the community. It is these volunteers that deserve the recognition and thanks of the more than 450 children to date whom have an improved lifestyle, due to KidSport funding.
KidSport Parkland has, for a number of years, been one of the leading chapters in the province, thanks in large part to the support of the local municipalities.
How much is the KidSport grant and what does it cover?
A KidSport Parkland grant is up to $500 per child, per calendar year (January to December). It can be used for registration fees for sustained sports programs (over a season) with qualified instructors.
Who is eligible to receive a KidSport Parkland Grant?
Children/Youth from families on low income, unemployed, on AISH, currently receiving income support and/or working hard to make ends meet are all considered eligible. KidSport Parkland considers social and economic barriers facing the child's family when determining eligibility.
As a guideline, KidSport Parkland considers grant applications with a maximum gross household income of $40,000 (family of two) to $65,000 (family of five+)
