Kids head back to class this week, Thursday September 3rd! The Town of Stony Plain wants to make sure all children get off on the right foot and safely back in to the swing of things. The Fire Department and Enforcement staff have teamed up and will be at selected cross walks talking to students and parents, jogging memories about cross walk safety.
“We will be parking an enforcement / fire vehicle with emergency lights activated in every school zone reminding drivers school zones are back in effect, and to watch for children as they are returning to school,” says Fire Chief Trevor Mistal.
Tiffany Anderson, Community Peace Officer Supervisor says, “As students prepare to return to school it’s important for parents to review traffic safety with their children. It’s equally important for drivers to avoid distracted driving, slow down and be aware of the increase in pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicle traffic during this busy time of year.” Anderson goes on to say, “Stony Plain Peace Officers will be conducting patrols of the various school zones throughout Town, but ultimately ensuring the safety of our students as they return to class, is everyone's responsibility.”
School Zones in Stony Plain are in effect from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm on all school days.
