Save the date! The Tour arrives on Sunday, September 6th!
The excitement is building as Spruce Grove, with support and involvement from the Town of Stony Plain and Parkland County, prepares to host the Tour of Alberta Stage 5 finish on Sunday, Sept. 6th.
The route for the elite professional cycling race, which will be broadcast in countries across the globe, was recently announced and residents are being encouraged to “save the date” as work continues to bring this prestigious event to the region.
There are six stages on the tour, which starts Sept. 2nd in the City of Grande Prairie and concludes Sept. 7th in the City of Edmonton. Stage 5 will begin in Edson and travel through Parkland County and Stony Plain before ending at Central Park in Spruce Grove.
As part of the tour, there will be a fan festival at Central Park in Spruce Grove from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival is free to attend and will include activities for fans of all ages. Area residents are encouraged to come out and cheer on the riders as they roll through Stony Plain and into Spruce Grove.
Planning for the festival and several events is well underway and a schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
To prepare for and accommodate the race route and the festival, there will be some road closures on Sept. 6th. Details about these closures will be provided closer to the date of the race.
The Local Organizing Committee for the Stage 5 finish is also looking for volunteers to assist with the race or festival. To sign up to volunteer, visit http://tourofalberta.ca/volunteer/ and for more general information check out the Tour of Alberta home page http://tourofalberta.ca/
