The annual Farmers’ Days Rodeo & Exhibition is back! From June 2-4, the Town of Stony Plain and the Stony Plain Kinsmen Club host the biggest event in town at Heritage Park. The three-day festival features a rodeo, live entertainment, midway rides, a market, kids’ zone, and parade.
Melanie Samson, Program Manager of Community and Protective Services, says, “Farmers’ Days is an event we look forward to every year.” Samson continues, “The fun-filled weekend attracts thousands of rodeo fans and families throughout the province. It brings new visitors to our community and encourages Stony Plain natives to return home.”
This year, the Farmers’ Days weekend remains very similar to the past; however, necessary changes were made to shorten the parade route and increase safety for residents located in the Glens neighbourhood.
Samson says, “The previous route had no emergency access in the Glens which posed a significant safety risk for our residents and emergency services personnel. After much consideration, we decided changing the parade route was the best option for everyone.”
The Town of Stony Plain is working closely with George Hennig Place to ensure residents affected by the parade route change have easy access to the parade. Over the next few years, there may be additional changes to the parade route due to Downtown Redevelopment construction.
