On December 14, the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board (EMRB) unanimously appointed Mayor William Choy as its Vice Chair.
Formerly called the Capital Region Board, the EMRB includes the Mayors of 13 different Cities, Counties, and Towns: Beaumont, Devon, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Leduc County, Morinville, Parkland County, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, Stony Plain, Strathcona County and Sturgeon County.
Mayor Choy will serve alongside Chair Dr. Jodi L. Abbot, who is the President and CEO of Edmonton’s NorQuest College.
Mayor Choy says, “I’m honoured to be selected as the Vice Chair for the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board. I’m looking forward to working together to ensure the region thrives and our residents’ needs are met effectively.”
The EMRB is responsible for implementing the region’s award-winning 30-year Growth Plan. Updated every five to eight years, the Growth Plan encourages efficient infrastructure and building in order to strategically manage the region’s rapid growth.
Tom Goulden, Town Manager says, “The goal of the plan is to create opportunities for enhanced intermunicipal transit and economic development within the region in order to ensure residents enjoy long-term prosperity and a high quality of life. Mayor Choy will do an excellent job of not only representing the Town of Stony Plain but as the Vice Chair.”
The EMRB is made up of 13 members, those who represent municipalities with a population of 5,000 or greater.
