It’s been just over a month since the residents of Stony Plain elected a new Council. In that time Council members have been going through an in-depth orientation process and now five are attending the Alberta Urban Municipal Association (AUMA) Convention and Alberta Municipal Services Corporation (AMSC) Trade Show in Calgary this week.
Deputy Mayor Judy Bennett says, “This is an opportunity to learn and hear from other communities. We also get the chance to spend time together as a Council and continue to come together as a team.”
The Deputy Mayor along with other members of Council will be meeting with Alberta Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Deron Bilous. They will also sit down with the Minister of Education, David Eggen. A discussion will be had with the Minister of Transportation, Brian Mason. And of course Council will be spending time with Stony Plain MLA, Erin Babcock.
Manager of Strategic Services, Brenda Otto says, “These conferences are a chance to speak with Ministers and our own MLA, to have conversations about projects we can work on together and to ensure they are aware of the needs and aspirations of our community.”
Former Town Councillor Dwight Ganske is also being acknowledged for his 40 years of elected service to Stony Plain at the convention. Ganske will be recognized at an upcoming council meeting too.
