The Town of Stony Plain is conducting its five year update to its Economic Development Strategic Plan. Many of the original objectives of the plan, which was created in 2010, have been accomplished. This plan will provide the Town with an important road map to encourage and support business development - creating jobs and expanding the non-residential tax base. The Town has retained MDB Insight, an economic development consulting firm to assist with the update.
MDB Insight will be working with Town staff and the business community to explore ideas and gain feedback on how the Town can continue to position itself as a business-friendly community in the Edmonton region. The consulting firm will also explore how Stony Plain can build on its business development and retention programs.
In the meantime, the Town invites input from the public and business community. The Town will be holding a number of focus groups for the business community in late August. MDB Insight has also launched an online survey which will be available until August 5. The survey is expected to take 10-15 minutes to complete and may be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6JBHWFP
“Community input around how we encourage economic growth is invaluable,” says Brenda Otto, Economic Development Officer of Town of Stony Plain. “Stony Plain has a very unique entrepreneurial spirit with many new residents possessing knowledge and skills. We need to hear from the community as to how we can best capitalize on our economic potential.”
The project started in June, 2016 and is scheduled to last until late November, when Council is expected to review and approve the updated strategy. For more information on the Economic Development Strategic Plan Update, please visit the project website: stonyplain.mdbinsightprojects.com
