Town Council approved the Strategic Plan 2015-2017 at the Monday March 9, 2015 regular Council meeting. The purpose of the document is to ensure residents and business owners in Stony Plain and surrounding area feel confident Stony Plain has a compelling and sustainable future, and Council is making the right investments and decisions to achieve this future. It will inform the residents and stakeholders how Council is meeting their needs and which priorities will lay the foundation for the Town’s future.
“The goals are to generate awareness and excitement amongst residents and stakeholders about the Town’s vision and strategic priorities, and inspire them to find their place within the plan,” says Mayor William Choy. He goes on to say, “It will create, support and encourage community identity, along with inform and educate residents and stakeholders about the municipal planning concepts. It is our hope the Strategic Plan will inspire staff about the vision and path moving forward.”
“Communication will focus on Council’s commitment to ensuring Stony Plain remains one of Alberta’s top communities to call home and do business,” explains Corporate Communications Officer Stephanie Barsby Boisvert. “ Residents will be hearing stories to provide evidence-based information as a way of ensuring the target audiences see the potential for the community and feel confident in its future direction. There will also be ongoing communication that will emphasize the relationship between the three planning documents. More than this, it will demonstrate the short-term plans are being achieved, or there is progress, taking the community toward the vision in the Municipal Development Plan (MDP). The MDP will be the anchor around these communications, and the Strategic Plan, as well as the Corporate Operational Plan, are the drivers for more frequent communication relative to progress.”
“Planning is important to both the future of our community and the decisions you see implemented today. Every service, community building and project you see in our community was once an idea in a planning document,” says Town Manager Thomas Goulden. “Stony Plain has a twenty-year plan, known as our MDP, and the three-year strategic plan is the roadmap to ensure we achieve our twenty-year outlook. This plan outlines achievements over the past 12 months as well as ensures the plan is a living document – reflective of what we know about our community and learn as we go. For the next three years, our 2015 – 2017 Strategic Plan will focus on smart growth.”
Stony Plain was recently recognized as one of the top 10 communities to do business in Alberta. This is an honour the Town wants to maintain, and to ensure that, Stony Plain is equally a community people are proud to call home.
