For 2017 the Town of Stony Plain initiated numerous capital construction projects. The Town is now able to confirm status updates for the following four major capital projects in light of the onset of the 2017/2018 winter construction season shutdown.
Boundary Road Reconstruction, Year 1 of 2 (2017)
Paving of Boundary Road is complete from Highway 16A south to 44th Avenue. This section of Boundary Road was reopened to the public in late October. Boundary Road further south from 44th Avenue to Fairway Drive – including the CN Railway crossing – is now closed to the public until roadway reconstruction completion in year 2 (2018). On November 24th the contractor will reopen the intersection of Fairway Drive and Boundary Road to Highway 628 for two way traffic. Further, the Town of Stony Plain has assumed the winter maintenance of Boundary Road from Fairway Drive to Highway 628 and will keep this portion of the roadway open until closed to complete reconstruction in April or May of 2018. This Capital Project remains on target for its planned September 2018 completion.
2017 Street Improvement Program, 52 Avenue
The sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and water main replacements have all been completed throughout 52 Avenue (alleyway to 52 Street). Concrete works and roadway structure were completed for the eastern half of this project by the end of September. This eastern half was reopened to the public by late October. The western block of 52 Avenue (between 51 and 52 Street) is now reopened to the public with a temporary roadway surface. It is the responsibility of the Contractor to repave this portion of roadway in 2018 and complete the remaining outstanding landscaping.
Downtown Redevelopment, Phase 1 (Rear Lanes)
All alleyways on both sides of Main Street (between 50 and 52 Avenue) are paved and reopened to the public.
2016 Street Improvement Program, 44 Avenue
All underground and concrete work carried over from 2016 is now completed.
General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure, Paul Hanlan says, “These four capital construction projects are either on or under budget, and the Town appreciates the cooperation of all of its contractors.”
