Freson Bros. has received the 2013 Ambassador of Action Business Award from the Town of Stony Plain.
Deputy Mayor Dwight Ganske made the announcement at the 2013 Stony Plain and Spruce Grove and Districts’ Chambers of Commerce Awards Gala at the ‘Pavilion at Heritage Park’ in Stony Plain on Nov. 16, 2013.
Launched in 2008, the Ambassador of Action Business Award is presented annually by the Town to a local business that demonstrates growth through improvement and expansion. This year, residents in Stony Plain nominated four local businesses for the Award.
“The Town is honoured to issue this award each year, a testament to our ongoing support and acknowledgement of local businesses – the heart-and-soul of our local economy, “ says William Choy, mayor of Stony Plain. “On behalf of my colleagues on Council, our administration and the residents of Stony Plain, we congratulate each of these outstanding nominees on their successes and thank them for the many ongoing contributions they make to Stony Plain.”
Nominees must clearly demonstrate how the nominated business has made investment(s) in its buildings or facilities; created new jobs; offered new or enhances products or services; experienced an increase in profits; won industry awards; and/or gained media exposure.

Freson Bros. opened its new, 43 000 square-foot flagship grocery store – the first 24-hour supermarket within the Tri-Municipal Region – in March of 2013. The company employs 1 100 staff in 15 stores across Alberta. In 2009, Freson Bros. relocated its head office to Stony Plain; 10 people presently work in this office. Staffing at the fresh market increased from 80 to 125 employees when the new store in Stony Plain opened earlier this year.
