The Town of Stony Plain will be educating residents and stakeholders about proper household waste disposal at the upcoming Tri-Municipal Expo Business & Home on April 7, 8, and 9. The “Don’t Just Trash It!” booth—featuring Town of Stony Plain employees, GFL Environmental Inc. representatives, and Council members—will serve to educate residents on a variety of topics including:
- Why properly disposing of household waste is important
- How to correctly sort, and dispose of, household waste
- How to use the My Waste App and/or www.stonyplain.com/MyWaste
Miles Dibble, Sustainability Planner, says “Environmental Responsibility is one of our key initiatives and by educating residents on proper sorting and placement methods we’re hoping to increase our overall waste diversion to more than 60%.” Dibble continues, “This will further reduce the amount of waste entering landfills, but we'll need help from the community to get us there!”
Specific information about garbage disposal, recycling, and composting will be available at the Town's booth, including details on the My Waste App, which is an online waste app. Residents will have the opportunity to learn about the many features the My Waste App offers and to ask any troubleshooting questions.
Mayor William Choy says, "We're excited to share our enthusiasm for household waste with the community." Choy continues, "We're hoping our booth at the Tri-Municipal Expo will increase residents' interest in our "Don't Just Trash It!" household waste campaign."
