On September 12, 2017 during the 2017 Economic Developers Association of Canada’s 49th Annual Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the Town of Stony Plain was awarded a Marketing Canada Award for:
Promotional Video: Where Businesses Come to Grow
The Town of Stony Plain created six videos to support business attraction. The videos were launched in early 2017 as part of the overarching “Choose Stony Plain” campaign to inspire and inform entrepreneurs of the business opportunities within Stony Plain. The Town worked with local businesses to develop and execute the concept.
Brenda Otto, Manager of Strategic Services says, “The intent of the videos is to create awareness about the community as an untapped market within Alberta.” Otto goes on to say, “The videos have a strong visual appeal and a call to action to engage entrepreneurs and investors in target business sectors. The videos profiled local entrepreneurial success stories and promoted an underlying message for investors and entrepreneurs to explore the Town as a welcoming destination.”
The first video created, which provided an overview of the businesses opportunities in Stony Plain, was selected for the Marketing Canada Award.
“It is an honour to be recognized nationally for economic development marketing. We strive to create a standard of excellence when promoting our remarkable community as a place for new and existing businesses to thrive,” says Mayor William Choy.
The Economic Developers Association of Canada is a national association of economic development professionals, representing every province and territory across Canada with nearly 1,000 members. The Association recognizes marketing a community is an integral part of the economic development profession, therefore it provides The Marketing Canada Awards competition as an opportunity to exchange and review promotional and marketing material produced by municipalities across the country.
