Three years in a row now the Town of Stony Plain wins the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) Award for its 2013 annual financial report.
Mayor William Choy is proud of the work the Town of Stony Plain is doing saying, “The Town is providing transparency and honest communication with the residents of Stony Plain. This Award is proof of the hard work our team puts into financial accountability.”
The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting program was established to encourage municipal governments throughout the country to publish high quality financial reports. This also provides peer recognition and technical guidance for officials.
Corporate Services Director, Louise Frostad, “Winning this award for the past three years is an acknowledgement of the reliability and transparency of the Town's financial information. The goal of participating in such a program is to help build trust in the Town's financial decision making and reporting of outcomes. The Town looks forward to producing another award winning report for the 2014 year, a dynamic report that is financially accurate and yet easily read and understood.”
The project was a collaborative effort between the Town’s Director of Corporate Services, Louise Frostad, the Manager of Financial Services, Sharleen Horchuk, and the Corporate Communications Officer at the time, Rudy Zacharias. It consists of three sections, which are used as joint and stand-alone documents:
• Section 1: general information about the organization, a community profile and a comprehensive year-in-review;
• Section 2: annual audited financial statements; and
• Section 3: statistics.
At the first Council meeting of 2015, January 12th, Council officially accepted the award.
The Town is working on the 2014 Annual Report, which will be submitted to the GFOA once again.
