Planning and Infrastructure
Who We Are
The Planning and Infrastructure department is often considered the "nuts and bolts" of municipal government, as it provides the 'hard services' to the community.
The department is responsible for overseeing all that is linked to the development and maintenance of the community, including physical, social, economic cultural, environmental and natural considerations. Responsibilities are broad, ranging from urban planning (including developing the vision and principles for future development); permits and approvals for construction; and land development services to capital works and maintenance of the Town's existing infrastructure, facilities, properties/buildings, fleet and public land. The department is also responsible for traditional capital works programs.
Sustainability is a key focus and an all-encompassing guiding principle of every project the department undertakes.
What We Do
The department is made up of three units: planning and development, engineering and public works.Planning and Development

Public Works
Public works maintains all of the Town's recreation facilities, parks, playgrounds, trails and open spaces. The division also manages the municipal infrastructure systems; Town fleet maintenance; public works operations; and utilities operations. Public Works is responsible for overseeing solid waste management (garbage and recycling) as well as the Town's municipal road system and all its associated maintenance. This includes, but is not limited to, hardtop maintenance, loose top maintenance, road side maintenance, signs, signals and lighting, safety devices, storm sewer repairs, winter control sidewalk repairs, bridges and culverts.
Public Works is also responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Town's water and wastewater systems. It responds to emergency water-/wastewater-related issues, which include watermain breaks, water service repairs and sanitary sewage issues. Learn more
