Regular Council Meetings
A Town Council meeting is the forum where all decisions that affect the governing of the community are made. Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of every month, except July, August and December, when there is only one regular meeting scheduled [if the scheduled meeting falls on a statutory holiday, it is postponed until the next day (Tuesday)]. All Council meetings are open to the public, with a standard start time of 6 PM. Please consult Facebook and Twitter for any possible cancellations. A cancellation sign will also be posted on the front Town Office door.
Governance & Priorities Meetings
This is a Committee of all Council members, which deals with matters in a less formal manner than at a Regular Council meeting. Matters are not formally adopted, but recommendations are made to a subsequent meeting of Council - at which time the recommendations are normally adopted and acted on.
Governance & Priorities meetings take place on the first Monday of each month. If the scheduled meeting falls on a statutory holiday, it is postponed until the next day (Tuesday). Agendas and minutes are posted online.
The Town posts live tweets and facebook status updates from most regular Council meetings.
Highlights from regular Council meetings are posted online; official minutes from both regular and Governance & Priorities Council meetings are also posted.
Council Meetings - Schedule (-165KB)
The Mayor, or Deputy Mayor in his absence, chairs all Council meetings, in accordance with Town’s Procedural Bylaw. For items not covered under the bylaw, Robert's Rules of Order are used.
Arrangements to appear in front of Council must be made prior to the agenda being set and distributed.
Every Council meeting meeting follows a predetermined set agenda. This agenda, and all of its back-up material, is prepared and confirmed by the Tuesday prior to the meeting date. Agendas are posted on the Town's website. A hard copy may also be viewed at the Town office on the Friday prior to the meeting and on the Monday of the Council meeting. This copy is not to be removed from the Town office.
After a Council meeting, minutes are drafted and placed on the agenda of the next regularly scheduled Council meeting for approval by Council. Once approved, the minutes are posted on the Town's website. The public can also request to view the minutes in-person at the Town office during regular business hours. Copies can be provided for a fee.
