Boundary Road Closure
07/06/2017: Beginning Thursday, July 13, Boundary Road will be fully closed from Highway 16A to Fairway Drive. Residents of Graybriar will be detoured through Briarwood Way for the duration of this critical construction season. There will be NO ACCESS to Fairway Drive from Boundary Road. Only residents who live directly on Boundary Road will have access to their properties. Please adhere to speed limits and be aware of increased traffic through this detour.
07/04/2017: The Town of Stony Plain's engineer, Associated Engineering, has reviewed the preliminary Incident Reports with the Prime Contractor, sub-contractor, and ATCO Gas. These initial reviews have confirmed adequate safety measures are in place to the satisfaction of the overseeing engineer. The Boundary Road Construction project was permitted to continue this morning at 9:30 AM. A provincial Occupation Health and Safety investigation remains ongoing. A report will be tabled at the July 10th regular Council meeting.
06/29/2017: The Boundary Road expansion project has been suspended pending a full incident investigation by the Town of Stony Plain and the construction contractor after a gas line was struck resulting in a fire this morning.
06/28/2017: Boundary Road between Graybriar Drive and 16A is closed to all traffic. This includes all pedestrians. It is a significant safety risk to any individual trying to walk through an active construction zone at any time of day. Further, it could result in criminal charges for trespass being laid by the Town. Please be safe.
06/02/2017: Briarwood Way is now open!
05/29/2017: Construction has started on Highway 16A. Please slow down near the construction zone.
Construction will be along Boundary Road between Highway 16A and Secondary Highway 628, starting at the north end of the road. Road closures begin on May 23. The entire roadway is expected to be complete in 2018.
Residents living close to the construction will be affected. When the project is finished, Boundary Road will be an urban roadway.
The project will widen and pave all of Boundary Road. The north end will have four lanes, and the south end will have two lanes. New sidewalks and walking trails will be added, and residents can feel safe travelling between highways 16A and 628.
By fully paving Boundary Road, the Town is fulfilling its commitment to the ‘complete streets’ philosophy. The new roadway will increase the Town’s north-to-south interconnectivity, prepare the community for future developments east of Boundary Road, and improve access to the rest of Town.
52nd Avenue Construction
The Town of Stony Plain is starting construction on 52 Avenue. The current infrastructure is old and requires an upgrade. Upcoming construction will replace utilities such as water, sanitary, and storm sewer, as well as sidewalks and road surfaces.
Construction on 52 Avenue starts Monday, June 26 with the cutting of concrete and asphalt. Road traffic should adhere to construction signs and flag persons at this time.
52 Avenue will be fully closed on Wednesday, June 28 and Thursday, June 29. Construction will be between the back alley just west of 50 Street and 52 Street. The road will be reopened for the long weekend (June 30-July 3).
On Tuesday, July 4, 52 Avenue will be fully closed between the back alley just west of 50 Street and 51 Street. Construction is anticipated to last until September 15; however, this is weather dependent. Once the second closure is complete, the final section west of 51 Street will be fully closed. We will be communicating final section closure details in the near future.
There will be NO parking along 52 Avenue. Access will be limited to back alleys, adjacent streets, and public lots. Do NOT park on or block back alleys. Access must be made available for emergency and service vehicles at all times.
Temporary water interruptions may occur during the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM with affected homes being equipped with a temporary water service line to reduce interruptions.
During construction, please:
- Respect all construction signs and parking restrictions
- Stay clear of excavations and moving equipment
- Obey flag persons and detour signage
- Remove vehicles, RV’s, boats, and other items from front driveways and yards prior to construction
Please continue to visit this page for further construction updates.
44th Avenue Construction
On Monday, July 24th, 43rd Street at the 44th Ave intersection will be closed to due to construction. Two way traffic east/west will be maintained along 44th Ave. There will be no access to 43 Street via 44 Ave. For safety of the general public and our contractors, this closure will be in effect until August 15th. Anyone needing to access 43rd Street will need to detour via 46th Street.
44 Avenue construction will commence approximately July 12, 2017, with pre-construction activities including the location of all shallow utilities on the North side of 44 Avenue between 44 Street and Aberdeen Way as well as setting up barricades in anticipation for construction.
Construction will require No Parking along 44 Avenue in areas designated for sewer excavation and replacement. No Parking signs will be placed 24 hours in advance; please obey these signs and have your vehicles removed by 8:00AM.
A complete closure of the 44 Avenue& 43 Street intersection will be required for sanitary sewer installation.
Detours will be established to reroute traffic. Flagging personnel will control two-way traffic on 44 Avenue during the construction phase.Listen to our commercial
