The Town of Stony Plain has an extensive snow removal program. Snow is removed from all streets within the town, by windrowing, loading and hauling it away to designated snow dump sites. Please keep in mind that, especially during times of high accumulation, areas require two passes from crews before they are completely cleared of snow.
Snow Clearing Schedule
*subject to change without notice, dependent on weather / street conditions, equipment maintenance, access and clearance (no parked cars on street) or other factors.
Snow-plowing of residential roads will commence upon an accumulation of 15 cm of packed snow, depending on field conditions and the weather forecast. At 10 cm of accumulated packed snow, the operations manager will conduct a review and has the option of clearing roads earlier. Snow will be removed according to the priorities indicated above in the Snow Removal Schedule 2017-2018.
Please use extreme caution near snow removal equipment. Please do not leave empty organic or waste bins on the road or laneway after waste has been collected as it makes snow removal and road maintenance extremely difficult. Please remove basketball hoops, driveway ramps and unattended vehicles from the street.
Thank you to all residents for being courteous during the snow removal season.
Sidewalk Snow Removal and Sanding
As per our municipal bylaws, residents are responsible for snow and ice removal from ALL sidewalks that border their property line. Snow must be removed within 48 hours after a snowfall stops. A wooden box containing sand is available for residents of Stony Plain to assist with controlling the build-up of ice on sidewalks adjacent to their property. This box is located outside the fenced area at the Public Works yard
(4505 - 50 Ave.).
Please note: this product is not intended for commercial use. We ask residents to limit their individual use to a maximum of one bucket to ensure others can also benefit from its availability. Thank you for your cooperation.
