Linda Matties Appointed Deputy Mayor
Councillor Linda Matties has been appointed as Deputy Mayor for the February 24 – June 30 term. Councillor Matties was elected to her first Council term in 2017 and her family has deep roots in the community. Her grandparents, Gordon and Evelyn Smith, owned and operated the Stony Plain Reporter from 1945 – 1963. Her family has played a significant role in the shaping of Stony Plain.

Council Votes in Favour of Regional Transit Service Commission

Council announced support for the formation of a Regional Transit Service Commission (RTSC) at tonight’s Council meeting. The RTSC aims to increase transit mobility and integration within the Edmonton Metropolitan region at a lower cost. It is the culmination of a number of municipalities working together to formulate a plan to improve transit services. With the support of Council, the Town of Stony Plain will participate in a formal request to the Government of Alberta to create the RTSC.

Kinsmen Flag Raised for Kin Canada Day

The Town of Stony Plain has officially named February 20 ‘Kin Canada Day’, celebrating Kinsmen Canada’s 100 years of service. Council members raised the Kinsmen flag at Town Office in honour of the continued commitment of Kinsmen across the country.

The Town of Stony Plain, in partnership with its sister town Shikaoi, is accepting applications for the Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) position. The successful applicant will have the chance to live and work in Japan for a year while helping teach English to Japanese children and adults.

Pitch-In Week Returns for Another Round of Community Clean-Up

Community members are invited to lend a hand and help clean up around their neighbourhoods for Pitch-In Week 2020, returning to town April 19 – 26. Residents can pitch-in to make the town more environmentally friendly by cleaning up, restoring, and preserving local greenspace.
