Fire Services Bylaw Returns to Council Chambers
The Fire Services Bylaw returned to Council last night for second and third reading. The bylaw provides guidance and direction for fire-related risks and formalizes roles and responsibilities of the Stony Plain Fire Department.
The bylaw was first presented to Council at the June 14 meeting and was presented for second reading at the June 28 meeting; however, the bylaw was returned to Administration for amendments.

A Fire Services Bylaw was approved by Council at last night’s Regular Council Meeting. The new bylaw provides guidance and direction for fire-related risks and formalizes the roles and responsibilities of the Stony Plain Fire Department (SPFD).

Stony Plain’s own Stephanie Labbé is bringing home the gold!
Stephanie Labbé, goalkeeper for the Canadian Women’s Soccer team, helped Canada claim the gold medal in a tense penalty kick shootout against Sweden on day 14 of the Tokyo Olympics. The final ended 1-1 and ultimately headed to penalty kicks where Labbé’s goalkeeping helped Canada secure the gold medal.

Highway 779 Update - August 13

Alberta Transportation has updated the Town on the Highway 779 construction project. The multi-use trail along 79 Avenue between Willow Way and 48 Street has been constructed and paved and is now open for use. Crews will be working on landscaping around the trail starting mid-week, next week. As a result, 79 Avenue between Willow Way and 48 Street will be down to one lane in each direction to accommodate the grading crew. The concrete medians between 55 and 49 Avenue have been poured. Road Preservation Projects Update – August 13

Microsurfacing in residential areas has been primarily completed. The contractor is currently repairing deficiencies in some areas. The new surfaces will continue to smooth as the road is utilized.
Microsurfacing is a pavement preservation treatment which includes applying asphalt emulsion, aggregate, water and cement powder to the existing roadway surface. This mixture of materials is used to preserve roadways that are currently in “good” condition.
