Highway 779 Construction Update, April 30

Alberta Transportation (AT) has informed the Town construction operations will resume on 48 Street (Hwy 779) on Monday, May 3. Lane closures will be put in place on the outside lanes of 48 Street between 49 Ave and Willow Park Road North starting Monday morning. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the two inside lanes from 49 Avenue to 55 Avenue to accommodate removal of the sidewalk and curb and gutter on the east side as well as construction of the multi-use trail on the west...

Public Tree Bylaw Receives Update
Council gave first, second, and third reading to the Public Tree Bylaw. The goal of the bylaw is to protect the Town’s forestry and discourage behaviors that would negatively affect public trees. In addition to the approval of the Public Tree Bylaw, Council has further repealed the Public Tree Policy at the recommendation of Administration on the count of duplications between the two documents.

Regional Recreation Centre Approved for Design

The development of a Regional Recreation Centre in Stony Plain is moving forward. Council has approved proceeding to the detailed design of a recreational facility to be located at the Glenn Hall Arena site in Old Town South. The design will focus on a capital project budget of $15,000,000.

Town Receives Ninth Consecutive Canadian Award for Financial Reporting

The Town of Stony Plain’s 2019 Annual Report has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for their Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CanFR). This is the ninth consecutive year the Town has received the award.
