Highway 779 July 12th Update

Alberta Transportation (AT) has informed the Town, the intersection of Hwy 628 (79 Ave) and Hwy 779 (48 St) will be down to one lane of alternating traffic on Monday July 15th and Tuesday July 16th. The underground crew is continuing work on the storm line at that intersection. Flag people will be in place controlling the intersection as the storm line is installed across Hwy 628. Genesis on the Lakes Land Use Bylaw Amendment: 1st reading

Council gave 1st reading to a Land Use Bylaw Amendment where an application has come forward requesting a portion of Genesis on the Lakes becomes a gated community. Administration requested the application to be amended as it does not align with the Town’s overarching vision by restricting public access to public roads. The Town of Stony Plain’s Population has Increased by 3.8%

The numbers are in! The Town of Stony Plain officially has a population of 17,842 people. Town Council was presented with all the findings of the 2019 Municipal Census at tonight’s Regular Council meeting.

The 2019 Municipal Census started on May 1st and ran until June 12th. The response rate was 99.9% with 43% of residents taking advantage of the online option, while 57% remained traditional by speaking to an enumerator. There are 7,329 homes in Stony Plain with 6,903 of them occupied.

Downtown Redevelopment July 4 Update

As Downtown Redevelopment construction continues, there are many updates to report.

The Town has been working with Downtown businesses to promote local shopping. One initiative that has come out of these discussions are billboards specially directing residents and visitors to the Downtown. One of three billboards is now in place. You’ll notice it as you are exiting highway 16A onto 50th Street. The other two will be going up shortly.

Stony Plain Central School Servicing Open House

An open house for Stony Plain Central School Servicing Project will be held on Wednesday, July 10 from 4-7pm at the Stony Plain Community Centre (5008-51 ave).

The project will involve extending the road from the west end of 57 avenue, and installing new underground infrastructure and a round-a-bout. The anticipated start date is July 15 with a targeted completion date of October 18, 2019. These dates are weather dependant.
