Highway 779 Construction Update August 31

Due to a broken-down asphalt plant, Alberta Transportation’s Highway 779 project has been temporarily delayed. As a result, 53 Avenue will not be reopened until tomorrow. With lanes already tacked, the area will run with single-lane traffic in both directions until paving is complete.

Council Passes Temporary Face Mask Bylaw
Council met for a second special Council Meeting to examine a draft bylaw for face mask coverings in Stony Plain. The bylaw is a follow up to the August 24th meeting wherein a public opinion survey was reviewed and members discussed the introduction of a face mask bylaw in town.

St. John Paul II Construction Update August 28

The Access Road between St. John Paul II School and Willow Park Road is almost complete, and it now has a name. Paving of Willow Heights Drive is scheduled for Saturday, August 29. Sidewalks and concrete work are complete. Crews will be onsite installing road signs and crosswalk markings the following week and the road is anticipated to be opened to traffic and pedestrians after the Labour Day long weekend. Alberta Transportation has informed the Town that last week’s rainy weather resulted in several delays and rescheduling of work. Construction crews will continue to work throughout the weekend and into Monday to complete the concrete curb and gutter and tie-ins along the west side of 48 Street between 50 Avenue and 55 Avenue. Paving along the widening of southbound lanes between 51 Avenue and 52 Avenue has been scheduled for Monday, August 31. The 53 Avenue intersection is planned to be reopened...
