Downtown Redevelopment Begins for 2020

Downtown Redevelopment is scheduled to begin at the end of April. Fences will be set up beginning April 27th and will remain in place until the end of the construction season. Main Street, from the 51st avenue intersection, north to 50th avenue will be closed to all vehicle traffic. Sidewalk access to businesses will be maintained during construction. All construction is weather dependent.

2019 Audit Presentation
Town Council was joined by Metrix Group LLP for a financial presentation and question period at last night’s meeting. Each year, Audited Financial Statements are submitted to Alberta Municipal Affairs as per the Municipal Government Act. The audit identified the Town had slightly higher than the average debt and slightly lower reserves than the median for the 2019 fiscal year, and comparable per capita taxes and utility charges as well as comparable per capita spending.

Connecting in Spite of COVID-19: The Stony Plain Youth Centre Goes Virtual

Any given day of the week, the Stony Plain Youth Centre (SPYC) is an active hub where the youth of Stony Plain and Parkland County gather to learn new skills or just hang out with friends. This safe place for all youth was required to close the doors suddenly on March 16th to slow the spread of COVID-19.
