Poet Laureate Presents Her First Official Poem

Poet Laureate Lisa Mulrooney addresses Council for the first time at the Governance and Priorities Meeting Monday night. This officially launched her tenure as Stony Plain’s Poet Laureate. Mulrooney is the Town’s first and only the 6th in the province.
“In the poem I recited for Council, I tried to capture something of the spirit of the Town, with an emphasis on how important it is to take the time to think about and preserve our stories,” reflects Lisa Mulrooney.

Councillor Bruce Lloy is now the Deputy Mayor for the Town of Stony Plain. The position of Deputy Mayor rotates among Council with each serving a four month term. Town of Stony Plain Reinforces Commitments to Partnership and Advocacy

During tonight’s Regular Meeting, Stony Plain Council accepted an update on the Town’s Advocacy Strategy. Advocacy with regional partners and other levels of government is one of the tools used to manage external factors with the potential to impact the Town’s ability to achieve strategic priorities. Advocacy can also refer to the use of public support to bring change to policies and practices.

For the first time in history, Stony Plain will be hosting a Poet Laureate – a cultural and literary ambassador, a champion for poetry, and representative through original works that reflect on our community and life. Stony Plain’s Poet Laureate will be the 6th in Alberta joining Edmonton, Calgary, Banff, and St. Albert.
