At last night’s G & P Council meeting, Council learned about changes to the Town’s recycling program and the educational communications plan.
General Manager of Planning and Infrastructure Ian McKay says, “Changes are required due to global restrictions on recycled material. In recent years, China passed a policy to ban certain types of solid waste from being imported and set contamination limits on recyclable materials.”

MDP Update
Town Council received information on the update of the Municipal Development Plan. The Plan will be updated to comply with the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Growth Plan. Public Participation opportunities will be presented throughout the process to ensure the plan focuses on the priorities of our community. Province Announces Funding to Support Affordable Housing in Stony Plain

MLA Erin Babcock announced a $6-million contribution to an affordable housing project to be located in Stony Plain. Mayor Choy and Councillor Judy Bennett along with Lori-Anne St. Arnault from the Meridian Foundation welcomed the news of the support to the seniors in our community.

Highway 779 Streetlights, Utilities and Traffic Signals

Street light installation is continuing along the east side of Highway 779 between 57th and 49th Avenue. Installation is expected to be complete by mid to late April. At that point, streetlights on the west side of Highway 779 will be removed and utilities will be relocated in anticipation of the road widening.
Traffic signals at 55th Avenue, 57th Avenue and Willow Park Road North will be flash mode by mid March.
Road construction is tentatively scheduled to recommence mid to late May.
