Treasure Hunt and Large Item Drop Off Return for 2021

Posted On Thursday April 08, 2021

Treasure Hunt is back! On May 14 and May 15, residents can shop the front lawns of participating neighbours for large items and other reusable goods. Following the Treasure Hunt, residents will be able to bring leftover large items to the Public Works yard on May 16 from 9AM to 4PM for free disposal.

Residents can bring an unlimited number of large items to the Public Works yard on May 16 at no cost; however, only eligible items will be accepted. All participants will be required to provide identification verifying Stony Plain residency. They will also need to be able to unload their own items.

Items eligible for drop off services include:

  • Household furniture
  • Washers/Dryers
  • Large kitchen appliances (fridges and freezers must be empty)
  • Small equipment (lawn mowers and hedge trimmers with oil and gas removed)
  • Barbeques
  • Bicycles and dismantled equipment

Ineligible items include:

  • Mattresses
  • Tires, vehicle parts, motors, engines
  • Railroad ties
  • Construction and home demolition materials
  • Household waste (clothing, organics, recycling)
  • Electronic waste
  • Hazardous waste

“Treasure Hunt is a Town favourite, and it is great to be able to host it once again,” says Mayor William Choy. “It’s a great opportunity for the community to get out, explore their neighbourhood, and find ways to reuse household goods.”

Residents participating in Treasure Hunt are reminded to remove any leftover items from the curbside after the event. For those attending the drop off at Public Works, physical distancing guidelines are in place and residents are asked to wear masks if unable to maintain a two-metre distance from others.
