Clean Up Your Community with PITCH-IN 2021

Posted On Tuesday March 30, 2021

Lend a hand and help clean up your neighbourhood! PITCH-IN week is returning to Stony Plain from April 24 to April 30. Community members can volunteer their time to making the Town more environmentally friendly by cleaning up, restoring, and preserving local greenspace.

PITCH-IN is the largest environmental improvement campaign in Canada and part of the international Clean-Up the World initiative. Last year, over 450,000 volunteers across the country took part in the week-long event. The nationwide movement aims to increase awareness about the impact of waste on communities, watersheds, and wildlife through collective action.

“Keeping our community clean takes each and every one of us. With PITCH-IN, anyone can join in and contribute to making their neighbourhood more environmentally-friendly,” says Operations Administrative Assistant Ashlee Morrow-Lively. “It’s a great opportunity for residents to get involved, enjoy the outdoors, and improve their community.”

“PITCH-IN Week is a chance for the community to come together and make a difference right in our own backyard,” says Mayor William Choy. “Promoting sustainability is a key focus for the Town, and it is through community events like PITCH-IN that we have the opportunity to engage residents and learn more about green initiatives together.”

Volunteers will be provided with collection bags and disposable gloves. For those planning to participate in the event with members outside their household, please keep group sizes to a maximum of 10 people and practice physical distancing.

Community members, schools, and organizations can register for PITCH-IN 2021 on the Town website. Registration will close on Friday, April 9 at 4:30PM.
