Let’s Make Seniors Smile - Adopt a Window Today!

Posted On Tuesday May 12, 2020

Each year Alberta designates a special week to recognize and acknowledge the valuable contributions Seniors’ make to our communities. This year, our Annual Seniors’ Week is June 1 - June 7, 2020. In recognition, Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) is launching an Adopt A Window - Seniors Week project. In this project, volunteers will be matched with a Senior and challenged to decorate the senior’s outside window with washable paint. The aim is to spread smiles, happiness and paint with our Stony Plain Seniors.

The theme is butterflies but volunteers can be creative with their positive messages. Volunteers will return to clean the window a week later. This project aligns with the Town’s Sign of Hope campaign and encourages the message #StonyPlainTogether.

“Together, we can let Seniors’ know we care and are thinking about them during this time,” states Deanna Butz, Community Development Officer from Stony Plain FCSS. “We have to keep everyone - including our seniors - safe but that doesn’t mean total isolation. Let’s remember we are all in this together and be creative
in how we connect with our community.”

Everyone is encouraged to share smiles with seniors during Seniors’ Week, share smiles with #smilewithasenior while maintaining safe physical distancing. Let's remember we are #StonyPlainTogether. If you know a senior who would like a splash of colour on their window or if you are interested in volunteering for this short term project contact our office. Let’s stay united and ensure all our seniors smile during Seniors’ Week 2020!

Lisa Gilchrist, FCSS Executive Director says “Seniors are deeply involved in our communities and their contributions benefit Albertans of all ages. This is our opportunity to say thank you in a creative way.”

The Adopt A Window - Seniors Week Project is one of the many programs and services that Stony Plain FCSS offers to individuals and families. For more information contact SP FCSS.
