2019 Town of Stony Plain Census launches May 1

Posted On Wednesday April 24, 2019

For the first time since 2015, the Town of Stony Plain is preparing for a municipal census. The 2019 census will begin on May 1 and runs until June 12.

A Personal Identification Number (PIN) will be delivered to Town of Stony Plain households starting on May 1 to May 5. Residents can use the unique PIN to complete the census either online, or complete it in-person with an enumerator.

Completing the census online is a fast and simple process, with only five questions required. Visit stonyplain.com/census, use your unique PIN, and follow the prompts.

Don’t have access to the online census? Citizens can also complete the census in-person with our friendly enumerators. A team of trained census personnel will be going door-to-door between May 15 and June 12 to help households complete their census in-person. They will be wearing green Town census identification badges.

The Town relies on vital census data to better understand the community and better serve the population as it changes.

"The census data not only provides an accurate picture of the needs of the community, but many provincial and federal grants are based on population", says Mayor William Choy. "So, the more accurate the count, the more dollars the Town receives to provide important services including roads, infrastructure, and social programs."

The municipal census is also an important factor in attracting new business to the Town of Stony Plain. Many businesses, restaurants, and investors use census data to determine if the area is suitable for new or expanded business ventures.

All personal information provided during the census is confidential and secure. The Town will never identify individuals or households. Rather, the Town will report at the data in the neighbourhood or enumeration area levels. The compiled results of the data will be shared in fall of 2019.

Online or in-person, be sure to count yourself in!
