***Revised*** Highway 779 Construction Update – July 30

Posted On Friday July 30, 2021

An update to the Highway 779 construction project has been provided by Alberta Transportation. Crews will be off site for the long weekend, starting today, Friday July 30th, and returning to site on Tuesday August 3rd. On Tuesday crews will begin drilling and installing dowels for the median curbs between 52 Ave and 49 Ave. Also on Tuesday, grading work will start on the swale in the boulevard along the multi-use trail on the west side of 48 Street, between 55 Ave and 53 Ave. This will result in the southbound traffic being moved to the inside lane and the outside or curb lane being closed between 53 Ave and 55 Ave. The work is anticipated to take two days. Crews will be hydrovacing utilities along the northside of 79 Ave on Tuesday so there will still be some traffic disruptions on the westbound lanes while they are working. The grading crew will move to 79 Ave on Thursday to start construction of the multi-use trail along the northside of 79 Ave between 48 Street and Willow Way. As a result of the grading work, the westbound lane will be closed during the day, with all traffic moved to the eastbound lanes with one lane of traffic in each direction. Wednesday August 4th crews will install the grate over the swale in the sidewalk south of the railway crossing, between 49 Ave and 47 Ave. As a result northbound traffic will be restricted to the middle lane, between 49 Ave and 47 Ave, while work is on going. Crews will be machine pouring the median curbs, between 52 Ave and 49 Ave, on Thursday and Friday. Crews will be completing the median curb tie-ins and bullnoses on Friday and Saturday. Future updates will be provided weekly or when major traffic impacts are scheduled.
