Old Town Community Plan Open House: Phase 3

Posted On Wednesday April 24, 2019

Want to have your say in the long term vision of Old Town? An open house for the Phase 3 Old Town Community Plan (OTCP) will be held on Wednesday, May 1, from 3-7pm at the Town Office in Council Chambers. Everyone is welcome! Composed of four phases and involving substantial public participation opportunities, the OTCP initiative will create a 25-year vision for the redevelopment of the Old Town neighbourhood and surrounding areas. The OTCP will be used by both public and private sectors to create a complete, sustainable area. It will also provide guidance to Council as they set policy, and act as a framework for updates to the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB).

“This is the first time residents will be able to see everything together in one full draft,” says Sustainability Planner Miles Dibble. “We aim to receive enlightening responses on the plan from residents by having the project team there to answer any questions and to review the work we have accomplished so far.”

With the plan nearing completion, the project team is looking for specific feedback from the public on the vision, guiding principles, development concept, policies and implementation strategy. The open house is an opportunity for interested people to provide direct input on the work and help finalize the content of the plan.

“This project is about more than maintaining the beauty and feel of Main Street; it’s about choosing the future of our Old Town areas,” says Mayor William Choy. “The OTCP will outline the shape of our community and help determine what benefits we will see down the road. Council is pleased to see residents stepping up and taking the initiative to contribute to this long-term vision for our town.”

Light refreshments will be provided at the open house.
