Now in its 13th year, the Ambassador of Action Business Award celebrates local businesses demonstrating growth through improvement and expansion. The Town of Stony Plain is excited to announce this year’s Ambassador of Action Business Award has been awarded to North Central Co-Op.

The Ambassador of Action Business Award is given to a local business who has made significant investment not only in their business, but also in the community through a new or expanded building, increase in jobs, new or improved products or services, or profile for the community. Nominations for the annual award come from the community and this year, the Growth and Commerce Committee chose from two finalists including West Parkland Gas Co-Op and North Central Co-Op.

Stony Plain’s North Central Co-Op had an ambitious year, their contributions strengthening the local economy and reverberating throughout the region. In 2022, the business opened a new pharmacy in Stony Plain and four new retail facilities across the region. Work is also underway on constructing three gas bars and one grocery store in the local trading area. North Central Co-Op had a successful year and saw increased profits, with $2.6 million paid out as cash dividends and $1.7 million invested in their membership reserve.

“Congratulations to both our finalists for an incredible year! The annual Ambassador of Action Business Award is our way of recognizing those making investments not only in their own businesses, but also in their community. Our kudos to North Central Co-Op for an incredible year!” says Mayor William Choy.

“The contributions of businesses not only strengthens the local economy but further enhance our economic profile and put Stony Plain on the map for future investments. We have an incredible business community here in Stony Plain who continue to drive progress and growth. Congratulations to both our finalists. These recognitions are more than well deserved!” says Economic Development Officer Michelle Levasseur.
