STONY PLAIN, AB: Stony Plain's Economic Development team is reimagining Stony Plain. A new website paired with updated branding showcases local investment opportunities and promotes the evolution of the community's position in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region.

In Stony Plain's 2022 – 2025 Strategic Plan, Town Council identifies their commitment to growing the municipality from nearly 20,000 to 30,000 people and the slew of benefits the growth will provide current and future residents, including increased quality of life and economic and employment opportunities.

"Although a town, Stony Plain is the size of a small city with over 18,000 residents, 1,000 active business licences, and a service area exceeding 80,000 people. What makes Stony Plain a one-of-a-kind community is our purposefulness. Leadership has always done an exceptional job keeping our rural roots and culture top of mind, which has ensured our residents have all of the advantages of urban living while maintaining a balance of that small-town peacefulness that's hard to find elsewhere," says Mayor William Choy.

"Growing a population by one-third requires a considerable shift in how people think and relate to Stony Plain. Reimagine Stony Plain is our way of initializing that shift. It sparks the creative energy required to clean the slate and look at the future through a new lens. The new website ensures critical information is readily available for prospective businesses making investment decisions," says Michelle Levasseur, Economic Development Officer.

Michelle Levasseur continues, "To attract businesses to Stony Plain, we frequently engage with people outside the municipality. We encounter the belief that Stony Plain is 'just another Edmonton suburb,' which acts as a disadvantage and contradicts the rich atmosphere and mindset you find throughout the community. Reimagine Stony Plain intends to make people reassess their perception of Stony Plain and invites them to discover the quality opportunities and life we've created a few short minutes west of Edmonton."

Stony Plain is working on a Highway Development Strategy to accelerate development along Highways 16A and 628. Additionally, work is underway on a Broadband Strategy to fill existing service gaps and improve Stony Plain's business opportunities. Funds have been committed in 2023 to complete a new Economic Development Strategy to support the upward growth of Stony Plain's business ecosystem.
