For over two decades, Truewoods Timber & Furniture has been a leader in crafting custom, high-quality wood furniture, delivering standout pieces for homes and businesses across Canada. Specializing in dining tables, executive desks, conference tables, and millwork, Truewoods has gained national recognition with projects for Microsoft Vancouver, the Royal Glenora Club, and more. Now, as the business expands into woodworking supply and scalable manufacturing, it reinforces Stony Plain’s role as a key location for businesses in the construction manufacturing sector.

At the Right Place, at the Right Time

Located just off Highway 16A, Truewoods benefits from strong accessibility and seamless connections to customers in Edmonton, the lakes and recreation areas to the west, and across Alberta. This prime location makes Truewoods a destination for custom furniture buyers and ensures efficient distribution channels for construction and remodelling projects extending beyond the province.

“Being here allows us to serve a growing customer base while keeping costs competitive,” says founder Holly Carmichael. “Freight charges for materials are no more expensive than they would be in the city, and the availability of trades, supplies, and industrial space makes Stony Plain ideal for manufacturing businesses like ours.”

Additionally, the town’s affordable industrial spaces and opportunities for property ownership make it an attractive alternative to larger urban centers, enabling businesses like Truewoods to scale sustainably while remaining centrally positioned for growth.

Carving Out a New Market

Recognizing an unmet demand, Truewoods expanded its operations to include a full-service woodworking supply division. “For years, local artisans and contractors would ask why we didn’t sell wood year-round,” says Carmichael. “We realized there was a demand for a dedicated supplier west of Edmonton—so we stepped in to fill that need.”

Today, Truewoods offers a curated selection of Osmowood finishes, saw blades, CNC tooling, abrasives, router bits, epoxy, and hardwoods, making it a one-stop resource for DIYers and professional woodworkers. The business also supplies fireplace mantels, reclaimed beams, and live-edge slabs, allowing homeowners, designers, and contractors to hand-select statement pieces for their projects.

The recent addition of a 24” Woodland mill has further enhanced Truewoods’ offerings, giving clients the ability to custom-cut large beams and logs for construction and residential remodelling projects—a capability that was previously unavailable in the region.

Crafting Success

With deep expertise in production manufacturing, Carmichael has developed a growth strategy that prioritizes efficiency without compromising quality.

“Scaling up while staying true to craftsmanship is all about process,” she explains. “We focus on structured workstations, standardized templates, and sourcing high-quality Canadian hardwoods to ensure consistency in every piece we produce.”

Truewoods also collaborates with local industry partners to optimize production—outsourcing CNC work, precision hardware, and final finishing to trusted Alberta-based businesses. This integrated approach allows Truewoods to remain competitive in terms of both time and quality while also strengthening the industrial and construction manufacturing ecosystem in the Tri-Municipal Region.

The company plans to expand its production space, introduce a split shift to meet rising demand and develop a robust online presence for national distribution.

Skilled Hands, Strong Future

Truewoods is also playing a key role in developing the next generation of skilled tradespeople. As production expands, the company is looking to hire additional local workers and create mentorship opportunities for high school students interested in woodworking and manufacturing careers.

“Stony Plain has an eager, trades-oriented student base,” Carmichael says. “We’re excited to offer opportunities that help young people build skills while keeping talent in our local economy.”

This commitment to workforce development aligns with Stony Plain’s broader manufacturing sector growth, ensuring that businesses can continue to scale and innovate while supporting local employment.

Building Momentum in Manufacturing

As Truewoods grows, so does Stony Plain’s reputation as a hub for construction and industrial manufacturing. By offering high-quality custom furniture, specialty woodworking supplies, and scalable production solutions, Truewoods is reinforcing the town’s role in Alberta’s broader manufacturing sector—particularly in construction products, residential building materials, and remodeling solutions.

With a strong foundation in sustainability, craftsmanship, and innovation, Truewoods Timber & Furniture is not only shaping the future of woodworking—it’s helping drive economic growth and investment in Stony Plain’s thriving manufacturing sector.
