Stony Plain Transit
Stony Plain Transit is on-demand!
On January 3, 2023, Stony Plain Transit Route 565 transitioned to a local regional on-demand system. In a partnership with the City of Spruce Grove and Parkland County, the on-demand system provides access across the Tri-Municipal region as one large zone servicing Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Parkland Village, and Acheson.
With over 90 pick-up/drop-off locations in Stony Plain (including 14 in the North Business Park) and over 400 in the region, travelling around the Tri-Municipal Region has never been easier.
There are two types of on-demand pick-up/drop-off locations: marked and unmarked. Marked stops have a transit bus stop sign. The remaining locations are unmarked (they are "virtual" - they don't have a bus stop sign).
On-demand local transit service operates 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday within Stony Plain and Spruce Grove. Within Parkland Village and Acheson the service operates from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Transit FAQs
What is On-Demand Transit? |
On-demand transit means customers book their trips in advance either through the app, online or by calling. There is no set schedule or fixed route. The buses run according to customer requirements and trips are determined based on the most efficient paths. |
Is On-Demand a door to door service? |
No. On-demand service operates stop-to-stop, meaning that the bus will stop at a virtual stop or an existing transit stop. |
What is a virtual stop? |
A virtual stop is a pre-determined location customers can select as a pick up or drop off location at the time of booking. Virtual stops are not sign posted - the app, website or call centre will tell you where they are, or you can check the map. The bus must pick up and drop off customers at either a virtual stop or existing transit stop. Virtual stop locations have been specifically chosen to ensure safe access for buses and customers. |
How are pick up and drop off locations determined? |
When you book a ride, you select your current location and drop off destination. The app, website, or call centre then tells you your pick up location. |
What if I can't book online or use the app? |
Call 780-962-8747 to book your trip. The customer service agent will create your account and book your trip for you. |
How long do I have to wait for the bus? |
The pick-up window is 10-minutes. Customers should be at their pick-up stops prior to the pick-up window because the bus cannot wait. |
Will the bus wait for me if I am late? |
In order to provide timely service to all customers, it is not possible for the bus to wait for passengers to arrive. All buses must maintain the schedule for picking up and dropping off passengers. |
Can I cancel or modify my bookings? |
If you can’t make it to your booking, cancel your trip as soon as possible. Repeat late cancelations or no shows may result in account suspension. Changes to bookings cannot be made. |
Will strollers fit on the On-Demand bus? |
Yes, depending on available capacity. Seats can fold up to allow access for strollers and there is additional room in the front of the bus. |
Is the On-Demand bus accessible? |
Yes. The bus has a retractable ramp that allows wheelchairs to roll easily into the bus. |
Are transfers to the commuter service included in the On-Demand bus fare? |
No, customers must pay a separate fare for transfers between commuter and local services. Arc Card holders are able to pay the On-Demand Fare and Commuter Fare using their ARC card. |
Can I use the On-Demand service to go to Edmonton? |
The On-Demand service is only available in Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Parkland Village and Acheson. For service to Edmonton riders need to use the Commuter Transit Service. |
Can I use my Arc Card? |
The Arc card (formerly Smart Fare) is now available and makes paying for and riding transit easier and more convenient! Transit agencies in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, St. Albert, Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Beaumont, and Edmonton are all onboard with the Arc system, which uses a tap-on, tap-off card to track rides. The card acts as your fare – no more messing around with cash, paper tickets, or passes. Find out how it all works at myArc.ca |
Can I use an ETS transfer on the On-Demand Service? |
ETS transfers are not valid on the On-Demand service. (Exception - Spruce Grove/ETS Integrated Pass) |
How can I get a Integrated Pass? |
A monthly Spruce Grove/ETS Integrated Pass may be purchased at Spruce Grove Transit or by visiting Spruce Grove City Hall. |
Does the Commuter bus pick up in Stony Plain? |
No, the commuter service only provides service between Spruce Grove (Route 560) and Edmonton. To connect with the commuter transit, book an On-Demand ride from Stony Plain to Spruce Grove. Check Spruce Grove Transit schedules. |
Can I ride the commuter bus around Spruce Grove? |
Yes. While the primary purpose of the commuter service is to provide service between Spruce Grove and Edmonton/Acheson, it is possible to ride a commuter bus from point to point within Spruce Grove and pay the local fare. Transfers are not issued; a new commuter fare would be required to travel into Edmonton. |
