Arbour Day 2020 Goes Digital
Arbour Day is returning to Stony Plain but this year, the green event is going virtual! With COVID-19 guidelines in place, the community tree planting event has been adjusted to a virtual format.
Residents can tune in for a digital adventure exploring the history of Arbour Day in Stony Plain, the importance of tree planting in the community, and an overview of this year’s planting in Willow Park Natural Area.
“Arbour Day looks quite a bit different this year without residents joining in to help us plant, but we wanted to continue the tradition even if that meant going online to do so,” says Chelseay Rudolph, Sustainability Planner for the Town of Stony Plain.
“The community tree planting and barbeque will be sorely missed this year, but the digital story is a great opportunity for residents to join in on Arbour Day safely,” says Mayor William Choy. “Our crews have done an amazing job planting the trees. I look forward to learning all about it!”
Residents can learn about this year’s tree planting and get a deeper look into the importance of environmental sustainability by tuning in to the digital story. The virtual Arbour Day story can be accessed through the Town website.
