Business License Fee Rebate Introduced for 2021
A rebate program for business licenses in Stony Plain is now open for application. The 2021 Business License Fee Rebate provides a 50 per cent rebate to resident businesses whose operations have been negatively impacted by the global health pandemic. Businesses will be able to apply for the program until May 31, 2021.
An initiative driven by the Growth and Commerce Committee, the 2021 Business License Fee Rebate was approved by Council at the April 12 Regular Council Meeting. The rebate reflects a similar program offered in 2020 wherein 99 businesses applied, totaling $4,325 in refunds.
“Providing support for our local businesses is crucial in the COVID-19 environment. Many business owners have been forced to adjust their operations or even temporarily close shop,” says Mayor William Choy. “We have an incredibly resilient network of entrepreneurs in Town, and we want to do everything we can do support them through these challenging times.”
Economic Development Officer Shawn McCauley says, “Businesses have so much on their plates right now. It's great to be able to extend a helping hand to those hit particularly hard by the pandemic and remind them they're not in this alone.”
The 2021 Business License Fee Rebate is not automatic, and all businesses interested in the program must apply to receive the rebate. Application to the rebate will be open until May 31 at 4:30PM.
