STONY PLAIN, AB: At the April 22, 2024, Regular Council Meeting, Stony Plain Council approved the Community Recreation Facility project, marking a significant milestone in the Town’s development and implementation of the Old Town South Redevelopment project.

The construction of a Recreation Facility in Stony Plain, has been a strategic priority for Council since 2018 and remains a priority in the Stony Plain Strategic Plan 2024-2027 . The Facility will include a 6-sheet curling facility, walking track, multi-purpose courts, pickleball courts, community space, and a turf field with a capital project budget totaling $41,651,871,

Mayor William Choy highlights the significance of the Community Recreation Facility project in advancing the Town’s strategic objectives. “This approval is a positive step forward for Stony Plain as we strive to build a vibrant and inclusive community," Mayor Choy said. "By investing in better infrastructure and following our strategic plan, we're setting the stage for a brighter future for generations to come."

Funding sources for the project include debenture, contributions from the Westridge Curling Club and Parkland County, as well as offsite levies. The Town will continue to explore additional funding opportunities for this project.

With an approved budget in place, the project has an anticipated construction start in Q3 2024.
