STONY PLAIN, AB: Did you just purchase new tires and unsure what to do with the old, bald set? Blew a tire and don’t know what to do with the scraps? Have no fear, the Tire Recycling Pilot Project at Rotary Recycle Centre is now here!

There has been some action at the Rotary Recycle Centre in the past weeks as a cage has been installed to enable Stony Plain residents to recycle scrap tires! Since tire recycling began in the province of Alberta, 137 million tires have been collected and repurposed. That is enough to wrap around the equator twice! Scrap tires are run through a shredder to become things such as drainage material in municipal landfills, playground surfaces, sidewalk blocks, matting products, and roofing tiles, mulch for landscaping, or whatever innovative Albertans think of next! To learn more about what happens to tires after they have been collected, visit: https://www.albertarecycling.ca/programs/tires/

This fantastic service joins the arsenal of recycling options available at Rotary Recycle Centre, which is accessible 24/7 at 4505 50 Avenue. Remember, don’t just trash it! Check out the following list of items that can be collected at Rotary Recycle Centre as a re-fresher:
