Governance and Priorities Meeting Highlights for July 2
Member of Parliament for Sturgeon River-Parkland Presented Update to Council
At last night’s Governance and Priorities Meeting, federal government Member of Parliament for Sturgeon River-Parkland Dane Lloyd presented an update to Council. This presentation aligns with the Town’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, strengthening Stony Plain’s relationships with other orders of government to advocate for the needs of Stony Plain and our region.

CIBC Wood Gundy Presents Economic and Investment Update
CIBC Wood Gundy, the Town’s investment portfolio managers, provided an update to Council last night on investment performance, economic climate, and impacts on investment returns. In alignment with the Town’s Fiscal Sustainability Framework and Cash Management & Investments policy C-FS-043, Administration closely monitors investment performance.

Council Accepts the Grant Management Presentation for Information
At last night’s meeting, Administration presented the Grant Management presentation to Council. The presentation provided an overview of the last 12 months of grant monitoring and applications.

Land Management Report Presented to Council
At last night’s Governance and Priorities Meeting, Administration presented the annual Land Management Report, which detailed all significant changes of the Town’s owned land inventory during 2023. Council accepted this report for information, and the Town Owned Land dataset has been updated and posted on the Town’s website.

Forest Green Plaza Update Presented to Council
At last night’s meeting, Administration presented the Forest Green Plaza Update to Council. The Forest Green Plaza is owned and operated by the Town of Stony Plain. This update highlighted future options and uses for this asset, including breakdowns of scenarios such as continued Town use, leasing opportunities, and future sales, each with associated financial implications and community impact.

Council Accepts 2023 Annual Report for Information
At last night’s meeting, Administration presented the 2023 Annual Report to Council. The Annual Report showcases the Town’s significant highlights and accomplishments, audited financial statements and statistical data from 2023. The report aims to provide an engaging recap of the year while meeting the reporting standards established by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The Annual Report has been submitted to the GFOA annually and the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR), which has won 12 consecutive awards.
At last night’s meeting, Council accepted the 2023 Annual Report for information, and the report was submitted to the GFOA with an application for the CAnFR award. Award recipients will be announced in the spring of 2025.
