The Town has been informed by Alberta Transportation (AT) that both southbound lanes of 48 Street between 55 Avenue and 57 Avenue will be closed on Friday, June 19 to accommodate concrete pouring for the Highway 779 project. While lanes are closed, traffic will be shifted to the centre northbound lane and northbound traffic will be restricted to the outside lane only. The lane closure will end by mid-afternoon and traffic will return to one southbound and two northbound lanes.

Grade widening work continues on 48 Street (Highway 779) between 55 Avenue and 57 Avenue. Work has also begun on 49 Avenue west of 48 Street and along the west side of 48 Street between 49 Avenue and 53 Avenue. Periodic lane closures of the outside southbound lane can be expected through to next week.

Construction of the concrete islands between 79 Avenue (Highway 628) and Willow Park Road North are scheduled for completion by the end of day on Thursday, June 18. Delineators and barricades will remain in place for the next week to protect the concrete while it cures.

ATCO Gas will be continuing work on relocating gas mains. The back lane on the east side of 48 Street between 52 Avenue and 54 Avenue is expected to reopen to traffic on Monday, June 22 with the section between 54 Avenue and 55 Avenue reopening by Friday, June 26. Work has begun on the back lane located on the west side of 48 Street and all back lane work is expected to be completed by July 20.
