Highway 779 Construction Update, October 23
With winter well on its way, Alberta Transportation is looking to finish up a few items on the Highway 779 project and prepare shut down for the season.
The pedestrian crossing signals are being installed at Westerra Drive today and are expected to be operational by end of day.
On Monday, October 26, crews will be paving the southbound lane tie-ins at 49 Avenue. Paving operations will affect traffic flow in all four directions at the intersection and delays can be expected. The Rexall/Servus Credit Union access and multi-use trail tie-in at the St. John Paul II School will also be paved this same day.
CN Rail will be closing the outside northbound lane of 48 Street between 47 Avenue and 49 Avenue on Tuesday, October 27 to inspect the culverts in the railway right-of-way. The lane will be closed between 7AM and 3PM.
Work will continue on the installation of the streetlights along the west side of 48 Street between 55 Avenue and 49 Avenue all next week. The streetlight poles will be erected starting Wednesday, October 28 and the lights will be put into operation Monday, November 2 along with the pedestrian flasher at 50 Avenue. Site cleanup will be ongoing throughout next week.
Line painting of 48 Street from 79 Avenue to 49 Avenue is planned for later next week. Work will include roadway lines, stop bars, crosswalks, and direction arrows. The exact dates are weather dependent and therefore have not yet been confirmed. Once the line painting is complete, two lanes in each direction will be opened from 49 Avenue to Willow Park Road North.
