The Town will be premiering the Stony Plain Short film project, “Israel Umbach and the Little Settlement That Could” at this year’s Outdoor Movie on August 15 at Heritage Park. The short-film depicts the noble story of the Town’s iconic sheriff and tax collector, Israel Umbach, chaining a Canadian Northern Railway train to its tracks for unpaid taxes. The movie was inspired by his story and town mural “Along the Fifth.”

Mike Abraham and James Goodwin from Still Water Film Works filmed the scenes in various locations around Stony Plain and Edmonton, including the Stony Plain and Parkland Pioneer Museum.

“Stony Plain Shorts is a new venture we have been working on and plan to continue,” says Culture and Tourism Development Officer Chantelle Laberge. “Our Town has a riveting past, which continues to be an important piece of our community story.”
