Neighbours Meeting Neighbours
Communities thrive when we care about each other and our neighbourhoods. The need for neighbourhood connections is now more important than ever.
As our Province enters into phase two of the relaunch in response to COVID-19, Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services invites you to become neighbourhood connectors. Neighbourhood connectors can host neighbourhood events as a fun and easy way to get to know your neighbours! As friendships grow, so do safe and caring communities.
Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services wants to remind people that we have available the community project: Let’s Get Together. The project provides residents with a Neighbours Meeting Neighbours Community Event Guide and support from Community Development Staff to guide and inspire residents to do just that – get together, while respecting physical distancing requirements.
According to Deanna Butz, Community Development Coordinator, Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services, “If community members are provided with opportunities to connect and socialize, they are more likely to develop relationships with others living in their community, which will lead to enhanced support networks and a greater sense of belonging.”
The program runs year round and encourages neighbourhoods to be creative in their get-togethers – Snowman competitions, treasure hunts, garden tours, Backyard Theater – the possibilities are as infinite as our community’s imaginations. The way we build connections between neighbours may look different for the foreseeable future but there are creative ways to build our neighbourly connections. When people feel connected to one another, their neighbourhoods transform from a place to live to a place to belong, so let’s get together!
As you're connecting in your neighbourhood and if you see someone in need of additional support and services, Caring Hearts Connection is available from your Stony Plain Family and Community Support Services.
