New Disc Golf Course Coming to Rotary Park Fall 2023
STONY PLAIN, AB: The Town of Stony Plain, in partnership with the Greater Regional Parkland Chamber of Commerce, and local disc golf enthusiasts, has started construction on a new disc golf course at Rotary Park, set for opening in fall of 2023. The 18-hole disc golf course is being constructed in the treed area, west of the playground.
This project will be completed in two phases:
Phase One:
The first phase of construction has begun, with vegetation removal along the 18 fairways. The average length of each fairway is approximately 260 feet. To open the areas between trees, a combination of manual handwork and a mulcher will be employed. The course has been designed to fit within the existing landscape as organically as possible to minimize the amount of vegetation and trees needing to be removed. This phase of work is projected to be complete by the end of the week, April 21st.
Phase Two:
The second phase of this project will include the installation of concrete tee pads, disc baskets, and signage throughout the course. Progress within Phase Two will be completed as funding and sponsorship are secured.
“The new disc golf course at Rotary Park will be an excellent addition to Stony Plain’s diverse recreation offerings,” says Karl Hill, General Manager of Community and Protective Services. “We are pleased with the design and consideration of the existing landscape for minimal disturbance of vegetation and trees.”
“Council has prioritized the enhancement of our outdoor spaces to support community health and wellness in our newly adopted Strategic Plan. The disc golf course will be a great addition to the active use space at Rotary Park,” says Mayor William Choy. “We are grateful for the funding and sponsorship that is making this project possible.”
