New Online Program Empowers Community to Support Seniors
Everyone in the Tri-Region is invited to become SeniorConnectors through the new SeniorConnect
Tri-Region program! This free online training program will train people how to recognize and respond to
seniors in need and it is made available through a partnership between Spruce Grove Family and Community
Support Services (FCSS) and Stony Plain FCSS. The program will train everyday people to identify seniors
experiencing challenges and empower them to help the senior connect to community supports.
“Many seniors are isolated and sometimes just having a friendly interaction with someone who cares can be
enough to provide them with the strength and support they need to face any challenge they may be having,”
states Sharida Csillag, Community Development Officer with Stony Plain FCSS.
The program, originally developed by Calgary Seniors, consists of six online training modules that will each
take between 15 and 40 minutes to complete. Module topics include:
- Caregiver burnout
- Mental wellness
- Elder abuse
- Addictions
- Diversity
“This program will enhance the lives of seniors across our Tri-Region,” states Lisa Gilchrist, Stony Plain FCSS
Director, “Especially now. It is more important than ever to be alert for seniors in our community who are in
need of supports. SeniorConnect TriRegion is another tool for our residents to improve the wellbeing and health
of our seniors.”
